Authority to bind or commit constituents to tentative agreement reached by negotiating parties varies as to each constituent group. Most often, each group assumes the other resembles themselves in this matter. A specific, detailed description of the steps and votes or confirmations required within each constituent group needs to be articulated and memorialized.

Thus, ‘he hates me’ may be a projection of actual feelings, ‘I hate him’ or ‘I hate myself’. According to Freudian theory, racial prejudice may be the result of projecting one’s own unacceptable impulses or characteristics onto members of another group.
