Negotiate Use Interest Approach to Negotiate Terms & Conditions
of Employer-Employee "Contract"
The process which employer and employee use to negotiate terms and conditions of their interactions will determine the nature of their relationship. A contract as used here includes the set of promises that employers and employees make to one another about how they will behave towards each other. A collaborative, win-win approach to "contract" formation will ensure that both parties are actually committed to the spirit behind the words of that "contract", decreasing the chance of misunderstanding and mis-assumptions that lead to disruptive conflict and establishing common ground from which to start when disagreement occurs. In other words, the interest approach should guide primary organizational processes (contract formation, e.g.), as well as the secondary processes of negotiation that kick in when primary processes fail.
